We’re seeking an Operations and Evaluation Manager to join our team in managing the efficient organizational operations and systems of K-12 civic and history education programs, with a particular emphasis on administration of our program evaluation activities. The Operations and Evaluation Manager will report directly to the Executive Director of the Civics and History Inquiry Partnership. This role will join a quickly growing team committed to ensuring K-12 educators in Massachusetts have the highest quality curriculum, professional learning opportunities, and implementation support in social studies possible!

Who We Are

The Civics and History Inquiry Partnership (CHIP) is dedicated to supporting educators in implementing high-quality, inquiry-based instruction in K-12 civics and history. We are fiscally sponsored by Goodnation Foundation and a member of Partners in Democracy Group (PiD), a non-profit based in Massachusetts working to drive democracy renovation nationally by working at the state level. PiD Group champions holistic, ambitious, and strategic agendas for change — leading to sustained progress for democracy. Civic education is the foundational layer of progress towards sustaining a healthy constitutional democracy.

CHIP’s biggest program to date in the K-12 space, Democratic Knowledge Project (DKP) Launch, has been focused on supporting Massachusetts schools using Civic Engagement in Our Democracy (CEiOD), an 8th grade civics curriculum developed by the Democratic Knowledge Project at Harvard University. The Civics and History Inquiry Partnership will now expand starting in summer 2025 to grades 5-7 with the Investigating History implementation curriculum support program, Investigating History Magnify (IH Magnify). Investigating History was developed by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Role and Responsibilities

The Operations and Evaluation Manager will serve a critical role for CHIP by contributing to efficient organizational operations and systems across both the IH Magnify and DKP Launch programs. The role will have a focus on supporting the program evaluation activities for both programs, with a targeted assignment for the IH Magnify program. This role will work both independently and as a part of a close-knit team with shared goals and desired outcomes.

The Operations and Evaluation Manager will work as a member of the CHIP operations team, as well as with the implementation support teams for IH Magnify and DKP Launch, as well as colleagues at the One8 Foundation, the lead funder of CHIP curriculum implementation support work. Responsibilities include:

• Managing and designing as necessary systems and platforms for curriculum implementation data collection, professional learning participation tracking, and student and teacher learning and engagement surveys
• Building and maintaining documentation of evaluation operations processes
• Serving as point person regarding student data privacy agreements with school district partners and CHIP’s written information security plan, including tracking reporting obligations and ensuring compliance with CHIP and school district partners' data collection procedures
• Collecting and maintaining data on potential and participating CHIP program districts and schools
• Collating and presenting implementation data to the DKP Launch and IH Magnify teams and key stakeholders, including project funders and school partners
• Collaborating with partners with the Portfolio Team at the One8 Foundation on program tracking systems, such as the IH Magnify project workbook, ensuring IH Magnify program information CHIP is responsible for maintaining is inputted and kept up to date
• Managing communications with key project partners, including school personnel, colleagues at relevant research and assessment organizations, and partners with the Portfolio Team at the One8 Foundation
• Participating in assessment and evaluation working groups to develop and refine assessment and evaluation survey tools and methods
• Scheduling and implementing project team meetings, including setting agendas, documenting decisions and action steps, and following up on assigned tasks
• Supporting IH Magnify events, such as communicating with program participants about upcoming professional learning sessions and organizing and communicating about logistics for program recruitment events
• Supporting hiring and onboarding, including processing new hire procedures (such as worker classification forms, open postings, onboarding schedule and activities) through CHIP and relevant (e.g. fiscal sponsor) systems
